Dictionary

IF you are really serious about your vocabulary, you will have to make vocabulary building a hobby, an absorbing interest, or even an obsession. One of the greatest things in the world is words, beautiful words,Musical words, strong and sharp and incisive words. We should write new words on pieces of paper and hang them where we can see them while dressing or string them on a line with clothespins so we can studyThem. I think we need to learn words to become a writer. Words are our stock in trade.
Therefore, If you want to add to your store of words, you too must read with a purpose. When you come across new or unfamiliar words, Stop. Then look around to see whether the text helps to reveal their meaning. If the context doesn’t give you first aid, lost them. Sometime perhaps, you will look them up in a Dictionary. When you do, find some way to fix their meaning or your trip to the dictionary will be wasted. It might even be a good idea to list them after you’ve looked them up. The list you make of the words you’ve actually met in your reading is worth a great deal more than any list made for you. It’s connected with your interest, it’s associated with your idea, and it’s yours. And it will stick. Stop, Look, and List Them.
